The rainy season here in Guatemala really takes a toll on cars, especially the tires… Let me share about this weekend (Javier Amaya keeps telling me to write a book on zany things that can happen on the mission field).
Thursday night, I stayed home sick while Wendy and Steven headed off to church… Not seeing a water filled pothole (Roads here are mostly potholes with a little asphalt in between)… she hit it and punctured the tire… Not knowing this she drove home and parked the car.
Friday morning, running out the door to take the kids to school I noticed the flat tire… Being the mechanically inclined person that I am [PLEASE PICK YOURSELF UP OFF THE FLOOR AND STOP LAUGHING], I immediately proceeded to change the flat… Just as I was putting the tire on the car, the jack gave and the car came crashing down leaving my jack useless. Frustrated I called road side service and they quickly sent someone to change my tire. On the way over he got a flat tire and sent me another person. Finally help arrived and just as we were putting the tire on his jack was bent in half. Now with the spare in place we were ready to go… After a short test drive I parked the car only to find the spare airless the next morning.
Saturday, I took the tire to be patched and again we were off… Only to be awakened by the reality that the tire once again was flat.
As I parked the car tonight I looked at the tire which was already halfway empty (or full – wouldn’t want to be too negative), I looked to the sky and exclaimed to God, “I’M TIRED OF TIRES!!!”
