Note: I met Shaela two years ago when I was invited to preach at the AMS Region of the L.A. Church of Christ. Last year she came with her fellow thespian Chadd Stoops to teach drama to the teachers and students at the HOPE school. We are grateful for her interest in the needy children of Guatemala and her determination to use her talents to serve the Kingdom. – Bill
What would our world be like with a little more thoughtfulness, a little more kindness…a little more fuzz?
“There was a place called Fuzzy Land, a fuzzy place which was most grand…”
So begins a story which hopes to spread fuzz in a world filled with so much “nuzz” (the antithesis of all things fuzzy.) The author, Shaela Druyon, wrote this story book dedicated to meeting the needs of poor children around the world.
Fuzzy Land was written and illustrated by Shaela seven years ago, but only after volunteering for a week at the HOPE worldwide school in Guatemala City, Guatamala last November did she decide to take serious action toward publishing it.
She hopes through the sale of Fuzzy Land to raise enough money to return to Guatemala City this summer to build up the charity school. The school is overflowing with close to 250 students and only five teachers. She hopes to lend support and provide for the teachers, without whom, there would be no education.
Self-published author, Shaela, a Christian in the AMS ministry of the Los Angeles Church of Christ, also plans to conduct an enrichment training program for the teachers of the Guatemala HOPE school. She will be training teachers to integrate Drama, Music, Dance, and Art into their lessons as well as character-building methods which focus on developing the whole child (heart, body, mind, and soul).
By selling her book for $5 higher than her cost of print, Shaela hopes to raise $5,000 by this July. This should be enough money to support herself for a two month stay and to supply the teachers with materials and other basic needs. Though she has invested a few thousand dollars of her own savings into this trip, Shaela is still $2,000 shy of her goal. However, she believes that with God, and your help, all things are possible.
Her children’s book, Fuzzy Land, can be viewed and ordered with Paypal at www.FuzzyLand.org/order. If you’d like to help, but don’t want to buy the book, you can also give a donation or see a list of other needs on the website.
Here’s to overcoming nuzz with fuzz!

Bill, thanks for serving so faithfully and diligently on the mission field, despite your personal hardships. Your example inspires and humbles me.
